Geo-IK-2 on the way to a working orbit

MSK warhead launcher "Rokot" with the Russian geodesic satellite Geo-IK-2 on board separated from the second stage and brought a satellite into an intermediate orbit. Start was done six minutes earlier from Plesetsk Arkhangelsk region. "Rokot" were created as part of the conversion program is removed from the weapons of intercontinental ballistic missile RS-18. Earlier start "Rokot" with Geo-IK-2 on board postponed either due to technical reasons or organizational (now cannot tell). Launch of the satellite is planned for May. The device is vegetating at the launch site from the end of March.

The first launch of the "new" of the converted missile was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome May 16, 2000. To date, from the Baikonur 26 successful launches of rockets of this type were carried out, 65 different space vehicles launched into low Earth orbit. Geo-IK-2 - the latest Russian satellite system designed specifically for the removal of geodetic measurements of high accuracy. Design and implementation of the new system performs JSC "Information Satellite Systems". Sputnik 5 years ago was not successful - the satellite into orbit did not come out, and since its launch in the near-Earth space has actually become space debris, though are in working order. Now for the successful operation of the new system, which requires the presence in orbit two satellites in the near future will have to carry out another start.
