In the center of the vortex of Saturn's North Pole

What's going on at the north pole of Saturn? As a vortex of the cloud strange and complex.

Last week, the Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn photographed the center of this whirlwind with unprecedented detail.

These clouds are located in the center of the unusual hexagonal cloud system that surrounds Saturn's North Pole.

A few years ago, the north pole of Saturn had process to sunlight and only took Cassini infrared photographs of previously shaded region.

The image, raw and unprocessed, is preparing to publish in 2013. Recently, several similar images of the region have been condensed into a movie.

Planetary scientists will continue to study this strange cloud formation for quite some time.
