Comet approaches the Earth, and would be visible to the naked eye in March 2013


A comet observes this week from Puerto Rico will draw near Earth at a distance that would be seen by the naked eye.

This was broadcast by the Astronomical Society of the Caribbean (SAC), who specified that it C/2011L4 comet, known as Panstarrs and which was discovered from the Maui Island in Hawaii in June 2011.

The Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii detected the comet was named C/2011 L4 (PANSTARRS).

Its closest approach to Earth will occur on March 5, 2013, while the closest approach to the Sun should happen on March 10 when it passes 50 million kilometers from the Sun, about the same distance from the planet Mercury.
