What is a solar storm?


The Solar storm is a temporary disruption of the Earth's magnetosphere. Associated with a coronal mass ejection (CME), a coronal hole or a solar flare is a shock wave incoming solar wind between 24 and 36 hours after the event. This only happens if the shock wave travels toward Earth. The solar wind pressure on the magnetosphere will increase or decrease depending on solar activity. The solar wind pressure changes the electrical currents in the ionosphere. Magnetic storms last 24 to 48 hours, but can last for several days.

The stages of a solar storm are three: Eruption solar radiation storm and CME (coronal mass ejection)
- Solar Flare: The first stage, which can break communications. It takes 8 min. to arrive. In addition, it makes the atmosphere increases its size to the orbits of the satellites, altering their orbits and have these fall to the ground.
- Radiation Storm: This is a "bombardment" of radiation from the Earth. This can fry electrical circuits and attack people. On Earth we are protected by the combined effects of the Atmosphere and Magnetosphere. Because of this, only affects astronauts are not safe.
- CME: The most dangerous wave, damaging satellites and electrical transformers in the world by passing electricity.  Communications will be damaged worldwide.   Has magnetic field: if it is oriented to the north, bounce harmlessly into the magnetosphere, if it is oriented to the south would cause a global catastrophe for the damage it would cause.
